Building Futures is a facilitated, conversational space for Black students to reflect on the experience of being Black at U of T and in the world more broadly, and to offer suggestions toward futures here on campus. The event will be held February 28, 2022, from 6 - 8 p.m. ET over Zoom.
During this reflection, student leaders from each student association and Jodie Glean (Executive Director (Interim), Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion), will facilitate dialogue on four themes: how the pandemic has fractured bonds between Black students on campus, how to find community and solidarity during the pandemic, being Black on campus in the aftermath of global Black Lives Matter protests, and Black joy.
This event has been created as a collaborative effort between the African Studies Course Union, the Black Students’ Association, the Caribbean Studies Student Union, the Office of Residence and Student Life (New College), and the Anti-Racism and Cultural Diversity Office.
All students, staff, and faculty at all three campuses are welcome to register and attend. Please note that the intent of this event is to prioritize the voices and experiences of Black students, so only Black students will be invited to participate in the dialogue. Everyone else is welcome to listen.
