Equity Workshop: Self-Advocacy, Allyship and Solidarity

This interactive workshop, offered by the Office of the Registrar and Student Services and facilitated by KPE's Equity Engagement & Student Advisor, will explore various concepts relation to self-advocacy, allyship and solidarity, particularly within a health and physical activity context. Students of all backgrounds are welcome.

Participants will:

  • Identify the layers in which oppression manifests and provide examples in the context of health education

  • Draw from a strength-based model to identify examples of resistance to each layer of oppression

  • Communicate strategies for engaging in self-advocacy and allyship when discrimination occurs, at both the interpersonal and institutional level, including related policies, practices and supports
