BKin students regularly speak to the sense of community they feel in KPE. Typically, that sense of community is built through in-person activities at the start of students’ first year (i.e., outdoor projects, student orientation), and continues to build over the year through informal engagement with faculty and students before and after class, hanging out in student spaces, etc.
As many of these in-person connection activities may not occur over the upcoming academic year, the First Year Mentorship program was created to support the meetings and interactions that in other years would have occurred informally. A faculty mentor can play a critical role in helping to facilitate introductions and a sense of belonging amongst student peer groups and welcome students into the larger KPE / U of T community.
Activities include:
1:1 personal meeting with faculty mentor to introduce yourself and learn more about each other [to be scheduled anytime before the end of the academic year]
Group meetings with mentor and peers in your mentorship group [2 meetings per term]
Sharing of resources and referral information [ongoing]
How to participate
All 1st year BKin students will receive an email indicating their faculty mentor.
